A high percentage of back injuries are reported after lifting and carrying objects, not always very heavy. Why is this? This is because not everyone looks after their body and performs the correct technique.
Our backs should not be subjected to a lot of stress, however the amount of stress increases when we bend and twist, especially whilst holding an object of weight.
It is therefore important to keep a neutral spine whilst lifting and putting objects down, and letting the muscles in the legs do the work.
My tips are; 1. Keep a straight back 2. Feet shoulder width apart 3. Bend from the knees 4. Keeps shoulders directly above your waist 5. Keep your elbows by the side of your body 6. Avoid twisting.
